Tesla Vehicle Bursts into Flames After Hurricane Helene’s Flooding
Hurricane Helene has left a deadly trail across the Southeastern United States, claiming over 95 lives and wreaking havoc with extensive flooding. One of the storm’s unexpected dangers has been electric vehicle (EV) fires, with at least one Tesla bursting into flames after being submerged in saltwater.
In a shocking video released by Pinellas County, Florida officials, a white Tesla is seen catching fire inside a flooded garage. As saltwater engulfed the car, flames erupted underneath the frame, quickly spreading through the vehicle and filling the garage with smoke.
Officials have issued a public service announcement for EV and e-bike owners, advising them not to park or charge their vehicles indoors or near anything combustible if exposed to saltwater. Owners are urged to bring their vehicles to a dealership for inspection before driving them, as saltwater can lead to dangerous electrical fires.
As recovery efforts continue, President Biden has vowed federal support to states impacted by Hurricane Helene’s destruction.
