Pinterest Expands Collage Creation with Remix Feature to Drive User Engagement and Brand Advertising
Pinterest is enhancing its creative toolkit by launching a new Remix feature for its popular collage format, allowing users to modify and personalize existing collages. The feature, inspired by similar tools on platforms like Instagram and Snap, gives users the freedom to put their spin on content, fostering creativity and collaboration. Users can disable remixing if they prefer not to have their creations altered.
Collages first emerged from Pinterest’s iOS app Shuffles, which launched in 2022, before being integrated into the main app last year. Since then, collages have gained significant traction, particularly among Gen Z. In fact, Pinterest saw a 418% increase in collage usage in 2024, with 72% of daily collage creators being Gen Z users.
To initiate a Remix, users can choose the “Remix a collage card” option within the collage tool or tap the Remix button on a collage they encounter while browsing. The final version will credit both the original and remixing creators, encouraging community engagement.
In addition to the Remix feature, Pinterest is making it easier for users to download and share collages in various video formats, such as timelapse or unscramble, and will soon enable sharing on other social platforms.
Pinterest is also leveraging the collage format for monetization. Advertisers have been invited to create collages using product pins from their catalogs, promoting them as ads. During its Q2 2024 earnings report, Pinterest revealed that major brands like Nike, John Lewis, and Bumble are already using collages to showcase their products.
With over 522 million global monthly active users, Pinterest continues to expand its creative offerings, driven largely by Gen Z, its primary source of engagement growth.
