Ghana Freedom Party Mourns Flagbearer Akua Donkor’s Passing
The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) is mourning the passing of its founder and flagbearer, Madam Akua Donkor, who died at age 82 after a brief illness. Vice Presidential candidate Kwabena Agyeman Appiah Kubi (widely known as Roman Fada) confirmed that Madam Donkor was initially admitted to the Nsawam Government Hospital but was later transferred to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (formerly Ridge Hospital), where she passed away at 10 pm on Monday.
Just weeks before her passing, Madam Donkor gave a final interview with CO Sly on Homebase TV, where she spoke about her hopes for the 2024 presidential elections and her plans to introduce positive policies for Ghanaians, especially within the media community. She expressed her gratitude for the media’s role in her career and shared her vision of making meaningful contributions to Ghana.
Having launched her political career in 2004 as a Member of Parliament candidate for Kwabre East, Madam Donkor later founded the Ghana Freedom Party in 2011 and continued her presidential aspirations despite societal challenges. Her recent participation in an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting highlighted her ongoing dedication, as she stood firm against remarks on her qualifications as a candidate.
Roman Fada urged all political parties to honor Madam Donkor’s legacy by ensuring a peaceful election in 2024. “Let’s use the passing of our mother as a reminder to come together as one people and vote peacefully to keep our nation united,” he said.
The Ghana Freedom Party will soon release a statement with further details about Madam Donkor’s passing and the way forward.
