T.I. and Tiny Win $71 Million in Intellectual Property Lawsuit Against MGA Entertainment
T.I. and Tiny have secured a major victory in their intellectual property lawsuit against toy giant MGA Entertainment, earning a staggering $71 million in damages. The jury found that MGA’s L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. dolls had infringed upon the likeness, trade dress, and intellectual property rights of the OMG Girlz, a pop group formed by the couple in 2009.
The case, which spanned weeks in a Santa Ana, California, federal courthouse, centered around T.I. and Tiny’s claims that seven dolls marketed by MGA bore striking similarities to the OMG Girlz members, especially during notable public events. Zonnique Pullins, Tiny’s eldest daughter and a former member of the group, was particularly highlighted during the trial as having her image misappropriated by the doll line.
After deliberation, the jury awarded the couple $17.9 million in compensatory damages and an additional $53.6 million in punitive damages. Tiny celebrated the verdict in an Instagram Live video, expressing her joy and gratitude for the jury’s decision. She dedicated the victory to her city and culture, reflecting on the long legal battle, which started in 2020.
With this win, T.I. and Tiny have set a significant precedent for protecting the intellectual property of artists and performers, marking a major victory for creators’ rights.
