I’m Waiting for a Government Appointment – DKB on His Political Aspirations
Ghanaian comedian Derek Kobina Bonney, popularly known as DKB, has revealed his growing interest in politics, stating that he’s patiently waiting for an appointment from the current NDC government. While he acknowledges being new to the political space, DKB is confident that his contributions will be recognized, boldly declaring, “If I’ll be remembered as the big head to be appreciated, so be it.”
DKB shared how a surprising encounter with now President John Dramani Mahama (JDM) fueled his political passion. Recalling one of the most unbelievable moments in his career, he revealed that Mahama once referred to him as his favorite comedian, a compliment that deeply impacted him.
“It was surreal. I had performed twice for him, but hearing him say I’m his favorite was beyond my expectations,” DKB said. This endorsement motivated him to campaign for Mahama, even though he had admired the president quietly for some time.
DKB recounted another memorable moment after performing at the Bukom Boxing Arena, where he was unexpectedly asked to introduce JDM to the crowd.
“It came as a shock. I thought, ‘Wow, I’m highly favored.’ They said I should introduce him, and I did it with pride,” he recalled. Interestingly, Mahama even quoted two of DKB’s jokes word for word, showcasing his genuine admiration for the comedian’s craft.
Reflecting on his journey, DKB believes that dedication to one’s craft naturally attracts recognition. “When you do your job well, you’ll get the accolades,” he emphasized.
