D-Black Vows to Dissolve MUSIGA, GHAMRO, and COSGA if Appointed Tourism Minister
Ghanaian hip-hop artist and entrepreneur D-Black has made a bold declaration regarding the state of music unions in the country. In a recent interview, D-Black stated that if he were to become the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, he would dissolve major music unions, including the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), and the Copyright Society of Ghana (COSGA).
He criticized these organizations for not fulfilling their roles effectively, especially when it comes to royalty collection for musicians and producers. “We don’t have a royalty collection society that is accountable,” D-Black remarked, adding that these bodies need a complete overhaul to serve the industry better.
D-Black also outlined plans to launch capacity-building initiatives, focusing on educating industry professionals and improving the management of the music business. He stressed the need for training programs to develop the skills of music managers and executives, enabling them to adapt to the evolving industry.
Artists like Ohemaa Mercy, Joyce Blessing, Stonebwoy, Efya, and Shatta Wale have voiced similar concerns over GHAMRO’s inefficiency in royalty distribution, highlighting the widespread dissatisfaction in the industry.
