Gospel Musician Brother Sammy on Campaign Songs, Betting, and Challenging Social Judgments
In a recent interview on United Showbiz, Ghanaian gospel musician Brother Sammy shared insights on his involvement in the upcoming 2024 elections, despite his lack of political affiliation. He revealed that a presidential political party approached him to compose a campaign song for the December 7, 2024 elections. Although many artists were available, Brother Sammy believes he was chosen because of his “anointing.” He disclosed that he has received half of the payment for the project, with the remaining amount to be paid after the music video is completed. He expressed his support for the party, stating he will cast his vote for them.
However, Brother Sammy noted that if another party offers more money, he would gladly compose a song for them and vote accordingly.
The musician also openly discussed his regular participation in betting, which he views as a quick way to wealth. While many pray for financial breakthroughs, Brother Sammy pointed out that few consider betting as a legitimate source of income. Although he has never engaged in lotto, he stated that he wouldn’t preach against it, asserting that even money from betting can be contributed to church offerings.
Brother Sammy further criticized pastors who oppose betting while allowing their children to participate in American lotteries, highlighting what he sees as hypocrisy. He also defended practices such as eating pork, getting piercings, and betting, asserting that none are sinful.
On societal judgments, Brother Sammy condemned how churches treat individuals with tattoos and piercings. He argued that it is unfair to judge Rastafarians or men with tattoos, while women are allowed to wear synthetic hair or weaves. He called for more honesty and less judgment within religious communities.
Brother Sammy concluded by stating he rejects societal moral restrictions that limit personal freedom.
