Hong Kong Selects Twilight of the Warriors as Oscar Entry for Best International Feature

Hong Kong has officially chosen Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In as its contender for the Best International Feature category at the upcoming Oscars. Directed by Soi Cheang, the film has become a global box office success, nearing $100 million in revenue. Adapted from Andy Seto’s popular Chinese comic City of Darkness, the story is set in the 1980s and follows the journey of Chan Lok-kwun, an illegal migrant, portrayed by Raymond Lam. The plot centers around Chan’s escape from a dangerous triad leader, played by Sammo Hung, as he seeks refuge in the notorious Kowloon City.

Featuring an all-star cast including Louis Koo, Ritchie Jen, Terrance Lau, Kenny Wong, and Philip Ng, the film debuted at the Cannes Film Festival’s midnight screening and has since gained widespread recognition.

This marks the first time one of Cheang’s films has been selected for an Oscar submission, a significant achievement for the director known for action films such as Limbo and The Monkey King. Hong Kong last received an Oscar nomination in 2020 with Derek Tsang’s *Better Days*.
